Among the most significant scientific breakthroughs, are mobile phones and smart phones. Designed to perform an overwhelming set of significant and useful functions, smart phones is now an essential aspect of human life, almost everyone has or wishes to have.
But don’t you know that this technological gadget, despite the fact of its usefulness and efficiency, carries with it certain health hazards and risks that could put its user’s life in danger.
Each smartphone, at varied amounts, excretes cellular radiation that is hereby caused by this what we call “blue light” each phone emits.

“Blue light is part of the full light spectrum, which means we’re exposed to it by the sun every day. However, nighttime exposure to that light, which is emitted at high levels by smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other LED screens, may be damaging your vision. It also suppresses production of the hormone melatonin, which throws off your body’s natural sleep cues”.
Among the detrimental health consequences of excessive use of smart phones include:
Cancer risk
Scientists explain that the blue light affects the sleep during the night and at the same time substantially increases the risk of developing cancer, particularly breast and prostate cancer. A hormone secreted by the pineal gland called melatonin is the body’s natural weapon against cancer. Studies showed that blue light suppresses the production of this hormone. Over time, as a result of excessive exposure the human body becomes a perfect soil for development of severe health issues.
Insomnia
As it is mentioned above, the blue light negatively affects the melatonin levels. Your body needs this hormone in order to get quality sleep during night and thus get a proper rest. Lack of melatonin disrupts the sleeping pattern and causes issues of: Depression; Obesity; Memory issues; Cardiovascular problems; Premature aging; Vision problems; Slow responding
In addition to all that, the blue light damages the retina and also causes macular degeneration and cataracts.
It was found out through scientific studies, that excessive use of smart phones have the same detrimental effects to individuals of different age-brackets. Though this assumption is still subject for further studies and researches, the fact remains that anything, smart phones in particular, once abused or exploited could trigger unfavourable consequences and results.
